Eco Decorating Services – what are they?
By ‘eco decorating’ we mean using paints and finishes that are not harmful to you or the planet. Often they use less energy to manufacture than conventional paints too. We offer ‘deep green’ to ‘light green’ options – from paints using only natural ingredients where the factory is run on renewable energy, through to water-based ranges that use a small amount of acrylic binder.
Our paints utilise natural, sustainable, materials such as: clay, chalk, linseed, citrus oil as opposed to plastics and solvents produced by the oil industry. They come in a wide range of colours and finishes. We can also tint paints, stains and oils to your exact requirements. They are competitively priced, coming in on par with, and sometimes cheaper than conventional competitors such as Dulux.
The paints we use have no or very low VOCs (volatile organic compounds). These are fumes that off-gas into your home, and contribute to atmospheric pollution and global warming.
Interiors
We have been painting with a wide range of environmentally friendly paints for over a decade. By using non-toxic, natural paints, we can help you create a healthier home and environment. Plus, our knowledge of low-carbon products, enables you to choose paints that have had less harmful impact on the planet during their production than conventional paints.
We can arrange floor sanding services and then apply a floor paint, oil or stain to the boards. We can accommodate your requirements with a wide range of eco-paints and finishes.
Exteriors
Our approach to exterior refurbishment is to lengthen the maintenance cycle as much as possible. We use paints that reduce the growth of algae on rendered surfaces. We can use opaque stains on woodwork that remove the requirement for expensive preparation in the future. If replacing your leaking or blocked guttering we recommend using galvanised steel guttering which is long-lasting, doesn’t warp, and can be recycled. We always emphasise durability and performance in relation to exterior works.
With our partners A.C.A. Scaffolding we can arrange a very competitively-priced scaffold for any size project. We can undertake the external redecoration of any building – from period property to new build, from bungalow to bungaroosh!
Historical paints and finishes
There is a large crossover between paints and finishes used in the heritage and restoration sector and those used in eco decorating and refurbishment. At Eco Refab we understand the need for finishes that are compatible with historical building materials such as lime plasters and renders, and traditional Sussex wall constructions such as bungaroosh. These materials need to be able to breathe. Cement-based renders and plastic paints applied over these traditional materials can cause damp and condensation problems. Whereas paints using linseed, lime, chalk and clay allow walls to breathe and moisture to escape.
We have experience applying linseed oil paints to woodwork, and lime-based, mineral, casein distemper, and clay paints to interior walls and ceilings and exteriors. You may have restoration project where you need a colour matched to an original. Get in touch with us – whether it’s small repair or a whole-house project.
